Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and this delicious natural process from Guji is a perfect representative of the depth and complexity of Ethiopia.

We are lucky enough to have Ephrem, of Utopia Coffee Imports, teach us more about the local culture and national pride surrounding coffee production and consumption. We recently had a friend of his share their traditional coffee ceremony at our September Lab event! Ethiopia is unique in that they consume over 50% of their national coffee production - the highest consumption for any coffee growing country.

MEET THE FARMER

We sourced this through Utopia Coffee Imports, who are themselves Ethiopian and care greatly for their country.

Over the years we have learnt much about Ethiopian coffee trade and have found ethics and sustainability to be incredibly complex. Therefore, we have partnered with TEAR Australia who works with Ellilta International in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.


Since 1996, they have worked faithfully to help women exit the sex trade and
the exploitation they face. They work holistically with these women to help
them recover and be empowered for new lives and vocations.
